The Möbius Universe
This model of the universe, which was developed together with Norbert Roszenich, is a four-dimensional Möbius strip, i.e. a Möbius strip in the 4-dimensional space-time continuum.
If one takes a normal link in a chain, one can move around outside or inside, but one always remains there: one cannot reach the inside from the outside, or vice-versa.
With the Möbius strip, it is different: from a mathematical point of view, it has no inside and no outside, which is to say that the surface is non-orientable. If an ant were to move along the outside of it, then it would automatically reach the inside and from there reach the outside again. A similar situation arises in the case of the Klein bottle: if one tries to empty the wine in the body of the bottle, it automatically flows back inside again, because there is no inside and outside.
If a four-dimensional universe is also like that, namely a projective level, where we not only tie together the ends that lie in infinity, but more over turn the pairs 180 degrees, then we return from the future to the past and so on – yet on the other side, so that we can see what is happening and can also be seen, but like spirits who cannot intervene in the events of the past. In this way, the causal structure of the universe can be preserved. Time travellers can only be spirits, a theory that was also propagated by Kurt Gödel, the most famous mathematician of the last century.1 However, the eponymous `Gödel universe´ of cosmology, which was achieved through a singular solution of Einstein’s field equations, contradicted the Machian Principle, since it presupposed the rotation of the universe. Although Gödel was convinced that it would one day be possible to prove the latter by measuring redshift, it is something that physicists have rejected. Later he constructed a second Gödel universe, which also expanded, but in which it is no longer possible to travel into the past.²

Das Möbius-Universum
Das gemeinsam mit Norbert Roszenich entwickelte Modell des Universums ist ein 4-dimensionales Möbiusband, also eine Möbiusschleife im 4-dimensionalen Raum-Zeit-Kontinuum.
Wenn man ein normales Kettenglied nimmt, kann man außen herum laufen oder innen, man bleibt aber immer dort: man kann nicht von außen nach innen gelangen oder umgekehrt. Anders ist das Möbiusband: Hier gibt es mathematisch betrachtet kein Innen und Außen, das heißt: die Oberfläche ist nicht orientierbar. läuft eine Ameise außen entlang gerät sıe automatisch ins Innere und von dort wieder heraus. Analog verhält es sich mit der Klein’schen Flasche: Will man den Wein im Bauch der Flasche ausleeren, fließt er automatisch wieder hinein: es gibt kein Innen und Außen.
Wenn das 4-dimensionale Universum auch so ist, nämlich eine projektive Ebene, wo wir aber nicht nur die im unendlichen liegenden Zipfel zusammenbinden, sondern außerdem noch paarweise um 180 Grad verdrehen, kommen wir aus der Zukunft wieder in die Vergangenheit zurück, und so weiter, aber auf der anderen Seite, dadurch können wir sehen was geschieht und auch gesehen werden wie Geister, aber in das Geschehen der Vergangenheit nicht eingreifen. Dadurch kann die kausale Struktur des Universums nicht zerstört werden. Zeitreisende können nur Geister sein, was schon Kurt Gödel vertreten hat, der berühmteste Mathematiker des vergangenen Jahrhunderts.1 Das nach ihm benannte Gödel-Universum der Kosmologie, welches durch eine singuläre Lösung der Einsteinschen Feldgleichungen gewonnen wurde, widersprach allerdings dem Mach’schen Prinzip, da es die Rotation des Universums voraussetzte, wobei Gödel überzeugt war, dass man das eines Tages durch Messung der Rotverschiebung beweisen können wird, was die Physiker jedoch ablehnten. Später konstruierte er ein 2. Gödel-Universum, das sich auch ausdehnte, wo aber keine Reise in die Vergangenheit mehr möglich ist.²
